ABOUT
We are Canada's largest food canmaker.

Your Canadian Canmaker, Pioneering Food Can Manufacturing in Canada.
We are Canada’s largest food can manufacturer, specializing in 3-piece steel food cans. At our core, we are a family-owned business driven by a shared commitment to support and strengthen the Canadian food industry through reliable, innovative, and locally made steel packaging solutions. Our mission is ambitious yet simple: to help make the Canadian food industry independent, one can at a time.
Our journey began in 2008, when we first entered the market by manufacturing cans overseas for the Canadian food industry. By leveraging our growing presence, we supplied cans to businesses across Quebec and Canada. Over time, however, we recognized a major opportunity — and a responsibility — to build domestic manufacturing capacity for food packaging.
Amid the global pandemic, the importance of resilient local supply chains became clear. Driven by the desire to support Canadian food producers and ensure access to essential packaging, we founded Ideal Can and began manufacturing cans right here in Canada. Starting with the maple syrup industry, our goal was clear: to provide Canadian companies with a truly local steel packaging solution.
Today, Ideal Can operates two state-of-the-art canmaking facilities in Saint-Apollinaire, Quebec and Chatham, Ontario. We specialize in 3-piece steel food cans, manufactured using Canadian steel and advanced production technology. Our team works around the clock to produce millions of cans each year, helping food producers and filling companies across the country package and protect their products.
In a world shaped by global supply chains and foreign dependencies, Ideal Can is building something different: a stronger, more resilient food packaging industry in Canada. Every can we produce represents Canadian steel, Canadian expertise, and a commitment to supporting the nation’s food supply chain. Because we’re not just making cans, we’re building the infrastructure of Canadian food independence.
